Holy Trail

Elsie

Elsie is a 2008 mare by Holy Bull, out of Ritchie Trail. She is a half sister to our oldest resident Private. She has 2 offspring, Supercross and Holy Freedom. She leads a comfortable and carefree life and has full financial support from her former owners.

Kisswithasqueeze

Kiss

is a 2012 mare who was adopted in 2021 and had a 2 year career as a jumper. Unfortunately, she developed bone spurs in her back and is no longer able to carry a rider. She returned to SWTP and is back with her girlfriends in our mare herd.

Suite Seven

Seven

Seven is a 2003 mare who was in a serious horse trailer accident in 2007 on her way from Canada to the race track in Florida. She sustained fractured vertebrae and is unable to carry a rider. She has been in our retired mare herd for 17 years and is beautiful and very sweet.

How Ya Flyin'

Leah

Leah is a 2002 mare who contracted EPM in 2009 which left her with neurological damage and atrophied muscles in her hindquarters. She gets around just fine and loves her life with her girlfriends.

Bridle Trail (unregistered)

Peggy

Peggy is 18 and the daughter of Private. She is unraced but deserves her retirement nonetheless. She has a big personality to go with that giant body! She has full financial support from her former owners.

Private Trail

Private

1996 mare by Private Terms, out of Ritchie Trail. Private is permanently retired with us and enjoying that life to the fullest! She is the dam of Peggy and Pilgrim, the grand-dam of Natty Beau, and sister to Elsie. She has full financial support from her former owners.

Van Leer Black

Van

Sired by the world famous Tapit, Van is a 2010 gelding who was diagnosed with kissing spines. He is a permanent retiree here with SWTP.

Teddy is our resident goober who is always ready for some scratches! This sweet and spoiled boy has a forever home here at SWTP.

A tale of responsible ownership

Elsie Wilson Thompson is the daughter of the late Orme Wilson, Jr, and his wife, Mildred "Midge" Dunn Wilson. When Midge passed away, she had set up a trust fund for her 19 broodmares to ensure their care for the duration of their lives. Mrs. Thompson reached out to us and we were able to take one of the pasture groups of 4: Elsie, Private, Peggy and Pilgrim. She also encouraged us to take in Natty Beau, out of Pilgrim, when his racing career was over. We send her and her brother, Orme Wilson III, regular updates on everyone's progress and we are thankful for families like this one in the Thoroughbred racing community!

It's expensive being a retired 1200lb eating machine: all our horses receive regular visits from the farrier, vet, and dentist, in addition to their every day care including hay, grain, and pasture upkeep.
